Expert gives backing to London's affordable housing plans

Ylr-news-800027180

Home buyers looking to secure affordable accommodation in London may agree with an expert's sentiment with regards to plans for cheaper housing in the capital.

Dino Patel, London regional manager at the National Housing Federation, indicated that a strategy outlined by the mayor Boris Johnson - which would give the city's boroughs greater powers over property decisions - is to be welcomed.

He gave his backing to "any initiative which leads to the building of more affordable housing".

In addition, Mr Johnson said that the proposals will seek to "unlock London's housing potential, deliver more quality affordable housing and make sure we achieve our goal of halving serious overcrowding".

Under the plans, local boroughs would be able to have a greater opportunity to control residential property budgets and work in consultation with developers.

Home buyers might be pleased by any measures which potentially reduce the amount of funds needed to get a foothold on the London housing ladder.
