Expert issues flood insurance warning
Many people in the UK may be at risk of financial problems if their properties were to be flooded.
This is according to director of AA Insurance Simon Douglas, who suggested that a significant number of consumers may be lacking cover for such damage.
He said: "I am concerned that many homeowners may be without cover, especially in the light of evidence earlier this year that up to a fifth of homeowners were considering not renewing their cover."
Mr Douglas added that policy providers are dealing with a rising number of weather-related claims from people in places where there is little or no history of flooding.
While having insurance in place does not prevent the "heartache and disruption" faced by flood victims, knowing they will sort out the expense and practical problems can be a big relief, he added.
Mr Douglas' comments were made as parts of the UK suffered significant water damage.
One of the worst affected areas is Cumbria, which the BBC claims currently has around 16 bridges and at least 25 roads closed.
