Employers may wish to introduce music into their working environment after one expert suggested that doing so can both enhance productivity and increase the overall happiness of their staff.

According to Francis McGinty, organisational stress management professionals and board member of the International Stress Management Association UK, tenseness among workers can be reduced if bosses allow music to be on during shifts, which in turn leads to them working harder.

"Some music sets up sound vibrations in the brain that promotes the release of the feel-good neuro-chemicals such as dopamine that causes this effect," he explained.

Mr McGinty went on to note that, in the wake of the worldwide economic downturn, senior managers should make sure their members of staff are aware of how they can "diminish the risks" of suffering from stress at work.

These comments come after the publication of data by Mind earlier this week (February 21st 2011), which found that more than half of all people who listen to music on their way to work feel energised when they arrive.
