Expert: Private rented sector would not benefit from more regulation
Posted by Mark Cunningham
Landlords operating in the UK's private rented sector (PRS) would not benefit if the government opted to increase regulation over their business.
That is according to Tom Entwistle, director at online resource Landlord Zone, who has said that while "improving the professionalism of landlords and cutting out the bad guys" remains a priority for all involved, the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance should not go about this by creating more red tape.
"We are not in favour of making the good ones jump through more and more hoops, whilst the bad ones will still remain relatively unaffected," Mr Entwistle explained.
A report published last week (March 16th 2011) by The Property Ombudsman stated that 2010 saw a year-on-year increase of six per cent in terms of complaints registered against estate agents.
However, the Landlord Zone official went on to say that the PRS is "already covered by more regulation and legislation" than most other arenas.
