Expert: Travellers must set a budget and stick to it

Travellers planning to head off around the world on a gap year should decide on a daily budget before leaving home and then stick to it rigidly while away, an expert has said.
According to Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, people must be strict with themselves when it comes to money on their extended vacations, even if they are only leaving Britain behind for a few months.
"On a four-month trip overspending by even £5 a day will really hurt after you've done it 100 times, so you need to be disciplined," he noted.
Research published last week (July 30th) by LV= revealed a combination of factors such as job insecurity, the cost of insurance and other general financial concerns are limiting the amount of time people spend abroad when travelling.
And Mr Hall added that anyone jetting off for a shorter period needs to plan their money even more stringently, as they are unlikely to work while away.
