Extended vehicle scrappage scheme goes live

Ylr-news-19424164

Yesterday (October 22nd), the extended vehicle scrappage scheme went live.

Last month, the government announced that the initiative, which is designed to boost the UK's flagging automotive industry, would receive an additional £100 million in funding.

This means the deal is open to more consumers and a total of around 400,000 cars and vans will be covered by it.

As well as adding more money, the government changed the terms of the deal and opened it up to van owners looking to trade in eight-year-old vehicles and car owners who registered their motors before February 2000.

"With the new terms, the government's scrappage scheme makes it accessible to even more consumers, but it has to end when the funding runs out," stated business secretary Lord Mandelson - who assumed his current role in June of this year.

He went on to urge consumers and firms seeking new vehicles to make the most of the scheme before it ends.
