Families take legal action against NHS following superbug deaths
Two families are taking legal action against the NHS following the deaths of pensioners Thomas Highton and Elizabeth Crosby.
The individuals, who were aged 80 and 78 respectively, both died in Warrington hospital from after contracting C difficile.
Their relatives claim that the pair lost their lives as a result of poor hygiene at the medical centre, which is run by Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Ms Crosby's family is accusing the trust of medical negligence, while Mr Highton's relatives are calling on anyone with similar grievances to come forward.
His son, Michael, said: "This campaign was borne out of the sad experiences of our families. The main focus of this is to improve the quality of care and treatment."
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - which provides care for more than 300,000 local people - said the organisation has met its national MRSA targets over the last year and has reduced C difficile rates by two-thirds.
