Fathers 'need more flexible working time'

Ylr-news-19238434

In order to fulfil their roles as fathers, men with children need the chance to work more flexibly, it has been claimed.

According to Jon Davies, chief executive at Families Need Fathers, the role of fathers is neglected in society.

He said: "Certainly [fathers need] more flexible working. A father or a mother should have flexible working deals so that they can build their working patterns around the needs of their children."

This in turn would benefit employers because their workforce would be happier and therefore less likely to cause problems, Mr Davies added.

He made his comments in the wake of research commissioned by the Fatherhood Institute, which found that 77 per cent of fathers polled reported that they would like to see mums and dads share parenting roles flexibly in future, rather than one of them acting as a main carer.

In addition, 78 per cent wanted appropriate facilities provided so that fathers are not shut out of childcare.
