First-time buyers 'need govt help'
Posted by Emily Swanson
Prospective first-time buyers need greater levels of assistance from the government if they are going to be able to get on the housing ladder in the near future.
That is the opinion of Katy John, press officer at online resource Priced Out, who has called on the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance to take a more proactive stance towards enhancing conditions for this group in the market.
Ms John explained the administration should "focus on the longer-term objectives of building more houses" by carrying on with its planning reforms in order to vacate more land for new-build properties.
However, the expert added that mistakes from the last house price boom prior to the global economic downturn must not be repeated if this process is to be a success.
These comments came after the publication of research by the Council of Mortgage Lenders, which showed that the number of home loans approved to first-time buyers decreased by two per cent in July.
