Gay vicar's civil partnership postponed
Posted by Mark Cunningham
A civil partnership ceremony between gay rights vicar the Rev Colin Coward and partner Bobby Egbele due to take place on October 9th has been postponed because the Home Office has yet to give it the green light.
It was to be held at Devizes register office but the event was dependent on 25-year-old Mr Egbele, a Nigerian fashion designer, obtaining permission to stay in the UK, the Wiltshire Gazette and Herald reports.
Calling it a "difficult period" for both of them, Mr Coward noted that they will now be discussing with friends as to what action to take, although the civil partnership will definitely go ahead at some point.
The couple had gained the support of MP Claire Perry who earlier this year contacted the UK Border Agency on their behalf.
It comes after the Liberal Democrats called for changes in marital legislation pertaining to same-sex couples, with Nick Clegg recently telling Pink News that he supports gay marriage.
