Gay waiter suing for sexual harassment
Posted by Richard Saunders
A gay waiter who said he felt "humiliated" after homophobic abuse from both colleagues and customers is suing the Michelin-starred Yauatcha Chinese restaurant in Soho for discrimination and sexual harassment.
Vincent Ma, 31, claims two managers simulated a gay kiss and touched each other in front of him and said a customer once pinched his nipple as he was serving food during a dinner party.
Speaking through an interpreter to a central London employment tribunal, Mr Ma stated he told manager Imran Khaleel about the situation and that he felt harassed, but was "disappointed that he asked me, 'do you like it?'"
He continued, saying Mr Khaleel and fellow manager Eder De Oliveira Fonseca Neto's "sexual harassment conduct became more aggressive and frequent".
This follows a report from the Equality and Human Rights Commission revealing that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people are twice as likely to experience discrimination, bullying and unfair treatment at work than others.
