The government has pledged a multi-million pound grant aimed at enhancing the current NHS system of health and social care, it has emerged.
Under plans unveiled recently (June 1st) by the Department of Health, some £6 million is to be made available to support projects and schemes in the government's Volunteering Fund National Awards.
This grant will be distributed to 13 bodies over the course of the next three years and is intended to help create a better patient-led NHS through improved public health and social care.
In total, the administration has made plans to invest more than £40 million in volunteering initiatives in the next two years.
Paul Burstow, minister of state for care services, commented: "Initiatives range from tackling health inequalities to preventing ill-health and improving health outcomes to spreading information and good health advice."
This comes after the British Medical Association called on the government to amend its plans to alter the NHS in the near future.
