Govt paternity right policies criticised by union rep

A representative from Unison has criticised the new government's plans concerning paternity leave.
Commenting on the topic, Michelle Singleton, assistant policy officer for Unison, suggested that the Tories are "giving with one and taking with the other" in terms of parental employment rights.
She made her remarks after the Queen's Speech, which was given earlier this week.
The Conservative/Liberal Democrat coalition said it intends to remove barriers to flexible working and promote equal pay.
Ms Slade spoke out against the administration's lack of a pledge to add to paternity leave.
She stated: "We're not now going to see the extra two weeks that fathers would have got for paternity leave, which is something that was in the Labour manifesto and is now not on the table."
Last year, figures produced by the Government Equalities Office showed that 51 per cent of working parents surveyed felt their relationships with their children would improve if they could operate flexibly.
