Govt scraps HIPs requirement
Posted by Mark Cunningham
The government has scrapped the requirement of homeowners to provide home information packs (Hips) when selling a property in the UK.
Yesterday (May 20th), the Conservative/Liberal Democrat coalition announced the documents were being suspended, with plans to make the development permanent.
According to housing minister Grant Shapps and communities secretary Eric Pickles, the move will make it easier for people to put their residences on the market.
In addition, it will save sellers hundreds of pounds, they claimed.
Mr Pickles remarked: "This swift and decisive action will send a strong message to the fragile housing market and prevent uncertainty for both home sellers and buyers."
Welcoming the new administration's stance on the issue, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors director of communications Gillian Charlesworth said Hips had "failed to address" the problems they were designed to tackle.
She went on to call for discussions concerning the improvement of the process of selling a home.
