Holidaymakers 'falling victim to thieves'
Posted by Emily Jones
Many consumers are falling victim to thieves while abroad, new figures suggest.
According to Direct Line, one in five of those polled said they have had possessions stolen from them while they were on foreign breaks.
Of these, 41 per cent had cash taken, while 20 per cent lost their cameras to criminals.
Meanwhile, 16 per cent had their debit or credit cards stolen.
Despite such risks, 16 per cent of respondents revealed they do not take out insurance cover when setting off on vacation.
Responding to the findings, Direct Line travel insurance spokeswoman Jennifer Thomas said: "Holidaymakers should protect themselves by ensuring that they have travel insurance in place to cover against any losses should the worst happen."
The plans of many tourists are being disrupted at present due to the volcanic eruption taking place in Iceland.
As a result of the ash being created by the phenomenon, planes have been grounded in many airports across Europe.
