Home improvements 'should take precedence over holiday trips'

Ylr-news-19907394

Consumers would be better off spending their hard-earned cash on making improvements to their home than heading off on a getaway, it has been suggested.

Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council, noted that property owners might want to add value to their dwelling if they have surplus cash available.

Responding to news that sales at B&Q have fallen during the start of the summer, he said that "home improvements should take priority over holidays".

Landlords may concur with Mr Leech's assessment that many homeowners are focusing more on improving their gardens.

In fact, he stated: "People are looking forward to a nice summer and are not concentrating so much on what needs to be done inside the house."

Moreover, the remarks follow news from Kingfisher - owner of B&Q - that like-for-like UK sales dropped by 4.4 per cent in the ten weeks to July 10th 2010.ADNFCR-2353-ID-19907394-ADNFCR
