Homeowners living near the stadiums of Premier League football clubs have seen the value of their property more than double over the last decade, new research has shown.

According to the inaugural Halifax Premier League House Prices Review published on Saturday (August 13th), the average price of an abode situated in the postal area of one of the 20 teams currently in English football's top flight has risen by 168 per cent since June 2001.

This is the equivalent of a daily increase of £61 and the study found that the region surrounding Manchester City's Etihad Stadium has witnessed the cost of dwellings soar by 350 per cent throughout this time.

Suren Thiru, housing economist, commented this trend "has been particularly marked in the postal districts of some of the newest football stadiums with the local regeneration often associated with such projects", such as the Etihad Stadium.

Recently, Selwyn Lim of Mouseprice stated that first-time buyer activity will not return to pre-recession levels until 2013 at the earliest.
