Independent garages urged to sign up to code of practice

Ylr-news-19221075

In order to help consumers identify garages which are responsible and reliable, independent firms operating in the sector have been urged to sign up to a code of practice.

The Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair, which was launched by Motor Codes in August last year, is designed to instil a sense of confidence in car users that participating companies adhere to high standards.

Recently, former consumer affairs minister Gareth Thomas issued an open letter to the independent garage sector.

In it, he called on firms to subscribe to the code.

He said: "A successful code is good news for consumers and business. It means garages show a clear intent to operate an open and honest business which attracts customers."

Mr Thomas, who left his role as consumer affairs minister following a recent cabinet reshuffle, added that it is particularly important during an economic downturn that people are reassured they are getting a good deal.
