Insurance policy small print 'may increase due to travel chaos'
Posted by Emily Jones
The chaos caused by the volcanic eruption in Iceland which sent clouds of ash across Europe could result in an increase in insurance policy small print.
According to Laurence Price, director of aviation strategy at Mott MacDonald, the situation may make firms more cautious and thus encourage them to introduce more exemptions.
The expert said he can understand why many airlines are rejecting appeals for compensation made by passengers.
He remarked: "People will start realising that acts of god really do mean acts of god. Therefore, again there will just be more exemptions. Then you have the question - what price [for] full insurance?"
He went on to suggest that it will take at least two weeks to clear the backlog of passengers.
Most airports have resumed service now following six days of closure caused by the ash in the UK's skies and questions are now being asked concerning how necessary the shutdowns were.
