Insurance price hikes 'will not be welcomed by young female drivers'

Young women will not welcome the recent increases in the costs of securing cover for their cars.

This is according to Graeme Kalbraier, managing director of Ipswich-based cover comparison site Tiger.co.uk, who said such rises will come as a blow.

His comments followed the release of figures from the AA, which revealed that since January there has been a seven per cent escalation in the cost of securing comprehensive cover for females aged 17 to 22.

"The increase comes at a time when insurers are faced with increasing financial pressures, making them less keen to discount rates for what have historically been lower risk groups," Mr Kalbraier stated.

He added that women in the age demographic should shop around in order to get the best deal possible.

In addition, they may want to think about insuring their vehicles for themselves only, or adding just their mother or father, the expert noted.
