Managers must make sure any interim workers they recruit are compatible with their full-time members of staff to avoid any negative impact on their professional environment.

According to Marc Lawn - managing director of online advisory service The Business GP - this is the main factor bosses must consider when weighing up the pros and cons of hiring temporary employees.

Mr Lawn noted that the same principles apply when looking to add to a firm's interim labour force as their permanent workers, with priority number one being whether or not an individual is a "strong cultural fit" for their organisation.

In addition, the expert stated it is vital for senior officials to consider whether they want "somebody that has a single industry sector expertise" or a candidate with "more rounded experience".

This comes after Marcus Alexander of Appleby Associates advised employees moving from the public sector to the private arena to temper their expectations in the wake of the recession.
