Japan's tourism industry 'to bounce back next year'
Posted by Emily Swanson
Japan is set to become a tourism hotspot next year as travelling around the Asian country will be cheaper than ever, an industry expert has said.
Kylie Clark, head of PR and marketing at the Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO), believes the horizons of travellers visiting the nation will be expanded significantly in 2012 following the launch of three new budget domestic airlines.
Ms Clark explained that once AirAsia Japan, Jetstar Japan and Peach Aviation are all up and running, Japan will be "opened up massively" as they will make it "so much cheaper to explore the country".
This year has been a tough year for Japan's tourism industry after the earthquake and nuclear plant disaster saw visitor numbers decline by 65 per cent in April.
However, the JNTO official believes the nation will bounce back in 2012 - a trend that would undoubtedly be helped by a potential government proposal to offer 10,000 free flights there throughout the year.
