Actor and singer Justin Timberlake has stated he is still affected by the fact his parents divorced when he was young.

The former N'Sync star said he is still working through issues raised by the split, which occurred when he was only three.

Speaking to US Elle magazine, he said: "I read something somewhere where the first three years of a child's life are the most important for the parents and the child's connection."

But Timberlake said his stepfather then came into his life and he was able to have a father figure in his life, later describing all of his parents as "great".

The star was previously best known for his music, enjoying hit solo singles with the likes of Cry Me a River after leaving his boy band roots, but in recent years he has branched out into acting.

He is currently starring in romantic comedy Friends with Benefits alongside Mila Kunis, while he also won praise for a cameo role in the Facebook film The Social Network.
