Landlords have expressed their concern over government reforms regarding social housing.

A new report from the Work and Pensions Select Committee claimed there are "huge uncertainties" surrounding the changes and urged policymakers to monitor the impact of the initiative.

It also called on the government to look into whether discretionary funding given to local authorities will be enough for them to support families in their areas who have "acute housing needs".

Ian Fletcher, director of policy at the British Property Federation, claimed that the report highlights the "deep unease" felt by many parties about the long-term reforms.

"[It] encapsulates the deep concern there is amongst backbench MPs, landlords and other stakeholders over reforms to the housing benefit system. We are seeing a huge gamble with high stakes," he said.

His comments follow observations from Tenancy Deposit Scheme spokesman Malcolm Harrison, who claimed that the past few years have seen the typical tenancy rate greatly extended.
