Landlords 'face tough task making old homes green'
Posted by Chris Stevenson
Landlords could face a tough task if they wish to improve the energy efficiency of their older properties, an expert has suggested.
According to Richard Jones, policy director at the Residential Landlords Association (RLA), there are a "lot of problems" associated with enhancing the green credentials of abodes constructed prior to 1980.
Mr Jones explained that such homes are "harder to treat" than their more modern alternatives as they often have insufficient space for insulation in the loft and a lack of cavity walls.
"All of that raises a lot of problems, not least because the technology is not terribly well-advanced and you have potentially got planning issues on the exterior appearance," he added.
These comments came after Knauf Installation joined calls from other organisations in urging the government to build on the current Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation proposals by aligning the plans with an ambition to insulate all lofts and cavity walls by 2015.
