Landlords issued insurance warning
Posted by Mark Cunningham
Landlords have been advised to make sure they have the necessary insurance in place to cover accidental damage.
Redbrick Landlords Insurance noted that this year has seen many properties affected by the cold conditions, with burst water pipes rising in number.
According to the firm, there were around 16,000 claims for such damage made across the country in January this year.
Managing director of the cover provider Tony Armitage commented: "A broken pipe is often undetected for hours and water cascading through a property can ruin everything - carpets, plaster, furniture, ceilings and electrical goods."
The expert went on to point out that it can take weeks or even months for a home to dry out, meaning landlords who are uninsured may be left with the "double blow" of paying for repairs and losing out on rental income.
Over the festive season and into the new year, the UK was struck by unusually cold weather conditions. While these have abated to a large extent, some areas of the country are still experiencing snow and ice.
