Landlords 'must have carbon monoxide alarms'
Posted by Chris Stevenson
It is essential for landlords to make sure their rental houses are fitted with carbon monoxide alarms.
That is according to Stephanie Trotter, president and director of CO-Gas Safety, has insisted this should be an essential part of any professional in the buy-to-let sector's inventory to help make sure their tenants are safe.
Ms Trotter explained that landlords should also have such products serviced rather than just checked over once a year, as this should ensure they are in complete working order all the time.
"We also think it would be cost effective to license landlords to make sure they have actually done what they are supposed to have done," she added.
Statistics from the Department for Health show that 4,000 people required hospital treatment for carbon monoxide poisoning last year, while 50 individuals died from the illness.
And Ms Trotter went on to state that such figures show buy-to-let professionals should be licensed to "make sure they have actually done what they are supposed to have done" in terms of safety.
