LGBT people 'twice as likely' to experience harassment at work

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people are twice as likely to experience harassment at work in the form of discrimination, bullying and unfair treatment.
This is one of the conclusions of the How Fair is Britain? report from the Equality and Human Rights Commission published this week, the first in a series to be presented to the government every three years, Pink News reports.
It was also found that younger people are similarly affected, with two-thirds of LGBT students admitting they have experienced homophobic bullying and a further 17 per cent stating they have received death threats.
The 700-page paper observed that there are "signs that [this demographic is] being penalised by unfair treatment and bullying in the education system, at school and beyond".
However, a change in attitude does seem to be occurring when compared with beliefs 16 years ago - in 1994, almost 70 per cent of people aged over 50 said same-sex couples were wrong, while in 2008 just more than 40 per cent of the same group expressed similar opinions.
