Lincolnshire motorists 'could face hefty fines'

Motoring fines for drivers in Lincolnshire could soon be the highest seen in the UK if proposals from the local county council are given the go-ahead, with tariffs possibly climbing from £70 to £80.

Officials are currently outlining plans to assume control of parking from the region's police force.

Advice is now being sought from the Department for Transport by the local authority to explore all possibilities regarding the penalty rise, with divisional highways manager Brian Thompson noting that the government's civil parking enforcement scheme would "result in a significant deficit for Lincolnshire", which is why other avenues are being explored.

However, spokesman for the AA Paul Watters noted that "councils are not allowed to use penalty levels as a revenue-raising exercise".

This follows a report in the Staffordshire Newsletter that disabled drivers in Stone and Stafford could soon be paying for parking if the borough council's proposals are accepted, with residents, motorists and businesses having until October 31st to make their views on the matter known.ADNFCR-2353-ID-800160691-ADNFCR
