Lord Whitty, chair of the National Consumer Council

Home > NEWS > Lord Whitty, chair of the National Consumer Council

For a long time consumers have suffered from poor customer service and poor value for money from lawyers - last year there was the equivalent of one complaint for every six solicitors. The government has proposed reforms that should make a difference.

They plan to set up new and independent regulation of the legal profession. This includes taking complaints-handling away from lawyers and giving it to a new and independent office for legal complaints.

Their proposals also include allowing organisations like supermarkets or banks to offer legal services in future.

This podcast interview with Lord Whitty discusses whether these reforms will make a difference for consumers and what you can do to ensure you get a good service from your lawyer.
