Man launches campaign against parking tickets

Ylr-news-19332251

A man has launched a campaign to get hundreds of parking tickets refunded.

Pensioner Reg Apps has revealed he is challenging the issue of tickets at an independent tribunal after being hit with a fine last month, the Hertfordshire Mercury reports.

The 76-year-old former salesman had failed to realise that restrictions had changed when he parked his vehicle by a parade of shops in an area controlled by Broxbourne council.

He wants the local authority to erect a large sign by the parking spaces in order to make the alterations clearer.

Mr Apps said: "I hadn't realised they'd started charging and people are still doing exactly the same thing as me.

"As you go in, there's one very small sign about 10ft high, but most of the signs are down the other end."

The council, which is headquartered in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire - revealed that a total of 571 tickets have been issued since the pay and display scheme was introduced.
