Managers must strive to make sure their employees are content if they are to maximise their productivity levels in the aftermath of the recession, an expert has said.

According to Hilary Jeanes, leadership coach and human resources consultant at PurpleLine Consulting, there is a lot of evidence to suggest that the "most important relationship" for the majority of people in their jobs is with their boss.

Therefore, she noted it is crucial for senior officials to do everything within their power to keep morale high while providing "what it takes to get the best from each and every employee".

For instance, Ms Jeanes explained that "respect and recognition for achievements" is crucial, meaning bosses should make themselves aware of what is important to their workers and focus on these points.

"This helps to build rapport, trust and loyalty," she added.

Recently, a study by XpertHR revealed that pay increases across the UK employment sector have remained static at around two per cent in the last few months. ADNFCR-2353-ID-801243051-ADNFCR
