Managers in companies across all sectors should now be looking to lead by example in their workplace following the global economic downturn.

That is the opinion of Ruth Spellman, chief executive of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), who feels that many firms are likely to have witnessed a decline in morale among their workers in the aftermath of the slump.

And with this in mind, Ms Spellman has indicated that now is the ideal time for senior management officials to "really demonstrate skills of management and leadership" in order to boost the happiness of their professional environment.

The expert noted that the "management chain agenda has got a lot more complex" in recent times, but insisted the primary negative driver is still financial pressures.

Research published by the CMI earlier this week (May 24th) revealed that 70 per cent of bosses feel morale in their workplace has dipped significantly over the last six months.
