Managers 'want staff to expand skill set'
Posted by Mark Cunningham
Professionals in a wide range of careers may be well advised to strive to continually enhance their personal skill set in order to impress their managers in the aftermath of the worldwide monetary slump, an expert has suggested.
Ruth Spellman, chief executive of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), has stated it is "very clear" that bosses want their members of staff to be "updating their skills on a regular basis" following the recession.
With this is mind, Ms Spellman noted it may be a good idea for professionals to attend courses, as certificates provide "evidence" to senior workers that individuals are talented and driven enough to be candidates for promotion.
"When you write on your CV that you've had ten years of management experience, what does that mean if there isn't any validation of the skills that you've learnt?" she asked.
The CMI revealed last week (May 24th) that a growing number of workers now feel less involved and valued within their company.
