Many Britons 'lacking wills'

Ylr-news-19268887

Many consumers in the UK are lacking wills, a consumer group has claimed.

According to Which?, over half of people recently polled were without such legal documents.

It found that 56 per cent of respondents did not have wills and 33 per cent of people aged over 45 were without them.

Which? also discovered that there was a lack of knowledge among consumers concerning what would happen if they died intestate.

Two-thirds of those surveyed did not know that, if a couple is not married then their children will inherit everything if one of the couple dies.

The organisation's Peter McCarthy said: "If you die without getting your affairs in order, your money, personal belongings and even your home could go to the person you least want to have them and your loved ones could lose out."

Earlier this year, Shelter Offshore recommended that anyone planning to emigrate should draw up a will before they leave the country.
