Many firms 'not making flexible working provisions for Olympics'

Many employers are not planning to implement special flexible working provisions for their members of staff during next year's Olympics, new research has established.
According to a study conducted by the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP), some 50 per cent of companies across all sectors in the UK will not be making changes to their standard practices when the event comes to London in the summer of 2012.
In addition, just ten per cent indicated they will allow flexible working to some degree in order to enable workers to enjoy the games, which are set to feature global sporting stars such as Usain Bolt and Rafael Nadal.
This figure, the CIPP stated, is likely to result in firms having to deal with high levels of absence as workers take unneeded sickness leave.
Diana Bruce, senior policy liaison officer at the body, commented: "The Olympics is a very significant occasion for the UK and the majority of individuals are likely to want to take time out to see certain events."
