Ylr-news-19913171

A high proportion of motorists support the introduction of tighter driving restrictions, it has been revealed.

According to a study conducted by Admiral alongside YouGov, three quarters of those polled believe the legal age for getting behind the wheel should be higher than 17.

In fact, 47 per cent of motorists believe the age should be 18, while 19 per cent claim 21 or older is a better threshold.

Justin Beddows of Admiral stated: "There's no doubt that young motorists have a much worse driving record than older drivers."

He went on to add: "Whether raising the driving age would make our roads safer is debateable."

In addition, 62 per cent of road users believe people should have to re-sit their driving test when they reach the age of 70.

Previously, the Motor Insurers' Bureau claimed that some progress has been made with regards to clamping down on uninsured driving in the UK.ADNFCR-2353-ID-19913171-ADNFCR
