Many workers 'unaware of flexible working rights'
A considerable number of people in the UK lack awareness of the so-called "right to request" flexible working, it has emerged.
Research conducted by the British Market Research Bureau found that only 50 per cent of people polled knew which workers had this legal entitlement.
In addition, of those who gave an answer to the question of who has the right, half wrongly believed that all employees are able to request flexible working.
Meanwhile, knowledge of who is eligible for the entitlement to ask for flexible employment was not found to be any greater among those who were themselves eligible for the provision.
Of those who had not made a request to work flexibly, around half (49 per cent) reported they were content with their employment arrangements.
Among the employees who qualify for the right to request flexible working conditions are those who have parental responsibility for a child aged 16 or under or a disabled child under the age of 18.
