The Bar Standards Board (BSB) was set up in 2006 to regulate all barristers in England and Wales. Previously the Bar Council was responsible for both the regulation and representation of barristers.
The separation of these two roles followed an independent review of the legal professions carried out by Sir David Clementi in 2004. His report is also the blueprint for the forthcoming Legal Services Act, which will set up an independent Legal Services Board. This will oversee the regulation of the legal professions, including the work of the BSB.
This podcast interview with Mark Stobbs discusses the role of the new organisation and the impact this will have on consumers.
