Arranging meetings can be detrimental to the productivity of a workforce, an expert has warned managers.

According to Al Pittampalli, author of Read This Before Our Next Meeting, get-togethers involving members of staff can lead to them losing focus on the tasks they have actually been assigned.

Many bosses perceive meetings as an ideal way of including workers in important decisions and have the impression that employees appreciate this.

However, Mr Pittampalli explained that, in actual fact, many members of staff feel frustrated when asked to attend a conference as they can "obstruct" their daily routine.

"Deep down, what people want desperately inside of organisations is simple: they want to make a difference .... meetings get in the way of your project getting fulfilled," he added.

This comes after Marc Lawn of The Business GP advised managers to make sure any incoming interim workers fit in well with their full-time employees.
