Men 'more likely to take action over employment grievances'
Posted by Mark Cunningham
Male workers are more likely to take their grievances with employers to tribunal, it has been found.
A survey of tribunal applications from 2008 compiled by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills revealed that six in ten claimants were men.
In addition, it was found that older workers had a higher propensity to take legal action, with those aged over 45 featuring more prominently in the statistics than younger staff members.
The government department - which serves a number of purposes, including making UK businesses more competitive and helping people achieve the skills they require - also noted that private sector companies were more likely to be taken to tribunal than those in the public domain.
It found that 72 per cent of cases involved such enterprises.
Meanwhile, the use of mediation was found to be low, with seven per cent of employers and nine per cent of claimants using such measures.
