Motoring Crash for Cash hotspots revealed
Posted by Daniel Stevens
The 20 motoring Crash for Cash hotspots in the UK for the third quarter of 2010 have been revealed, with Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, east London and Bradford making up the top five.
According to the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB), these scams involve fraudsters driving to busy junctions and performing dangerous and unexpected manoeuvres to cause crashes, with claims then being made against innocent drivers' insurers.
This could well result in no claims bonuses being affected, as well as future costs of insurance policies and the organisation has advised motorists to stay alert, keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front and be aware of any erratic driving by others.
In order to tackle this, the IFB is currently involved in 27 joint police operations across 14 forces around the country, each one representing an average of 253 claims.
Since its inception in 2006, the body has proved useful in assisting in the arrests of more than 424 people trying to defraud insurers.
