Motoring tickets could soon climb
Posted by Mark Cunningham
The cost of motoring tickets could soon be on the rise, if proposals drawn up by the British Parking Association are given the go-ahead.
Should this happen, fines may climb by 40 per cent, while drivers in London could be hit even harder, with local councils keen to hike tariffs for the most expensive ticket up from £120 to £140, the Daily Telegraph reports.
In 2008, £328 million was paid for such penalties - three times more than was recouped for speeding.
And a strategy document from the organisation noted that an "urgent" review of charges for England and Wales - which are not in line with London levels - is required.
Chief executive Patrick Troy confirmed that minor parking offence fees - such as staying too long at a meter - could jump from £50 to £70.
This follows reports that the Department of Health has said that motoring fees in hospital car parks are to remain.
