A motorist has described her anger at receiving a parking ticket recently.

June Williams left her car in the same spot she had been using each Monday and Tuesday for the last 18 months, the Express & Star reports.

When she returned, she found double yellow lines had been painted either side of the vehicle and a parking ticket had been left for her.

The 58-year-old remarked: "I'm absolutely gobsmacked. There's no way I should have to pay and I will fight it. We cannot afford to pay for something which is not right."

There were no lines when she arrived in her Mitsubishi Challenger, she pointed out.
Responding to the complaints, Alistair Merrick, chief officer with responsibility for parking enforcement at Wolverhampton City Council - which is headquartered in St Peter's Square - said the ticket had been issued in error.

He went on to apologise to Ms Williams and added that the fine will be cancelled.
