Motorists 'can access cost-effective car insurance'

Motorists can still access suitable car insurance that is not overpriced despite the ongoing financial turmoil being experienced in the UK.

That is according to Robert Gifford, executive director of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS), who believes there is enough variety present in this sector to mean all drivers have realistic options open to them.

Research published recently by the Motor Insurers' Bureau revealed that there has been an overall decline in the frequency of uninsured driving taking place in Britain over the last five years.

However, progress in this area is being stunted by the high number of people using cars without cover in West Yorkshire and the West Midlands.

Mr Gifford explained there is a wide range of reasons why individuals choose to take this risk - such as the fact they think police fines for flouting the law will be cheaper than signing up for a policy.

But he insisted dodging insurance is not necessary, as it is "certainly possible to get cost-effective and good value" packages.ADNFCR-2353-ID-800735845-ADNFCR
