Motorists 'can avoid large bills through regular car maintenance'
Motorists can avoid incurring large bills if they ensure their cars are regularly serviced, it has been claimed.
According to Alex Wells, press officer at the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF), it is "always best" to make sure that vehicles are properly maintained.
He said: "In the long run this will actually save you money because any small problems will be picked up before they become large problems - which is usually when they become expensive."
Mr Wells added that people should go to a reliable garage that is a member of the RMIF and will be able to provide them with support and advice on keeping their cars on the road without it costing too much.
Recently, Motor Codes released research which suggested that many motorists are confused by the charges imposed by garages for vehicle repairs.
According to the organisation, one in five drivers has been charged more for work performed on their cars than they were initially quoted.
