Motorists 'failing to haggle when buying new cars'
Posted by Emily Jones
People are reluctant to haggle when they are buying new vehicles, it has been found.
Research commissioned by esure car insurance suggested that 33 per cent of people polled would not consider trying to argue for a better deal on their next car purchase.
Drivers in the north-west of England were found to be the least likely to seek better deals in this way, with 36 per cent of consumers from the region reporting they never bargain on forecourts.
Scots, on the other hand, were the most likely to enter into such negotiations, with 85 per cent stating they would attempt to drive down the sales price of a new set of wheels.
Responding to the findings, Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure car insurance, said: "Motorists should never be afraid to haggle down the price of a new car. Savings are there to be had by driving a hard bargain on the forecourt."
Recently, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders revealed that a total of 145,479 new cars were sold in the UK over the course of January.
