Motorists 'must be aware of potholes'
Posted by Helen Jones
Motorists across the UK have been advised to take extra care when maintaining the wellbeing of their car due to the ongoing icy weather enveloping much of the country.
The AA has warned drivers that the recent spell of adverse weather has resulted in many roads being on "borrowed time" before they become ravaged with potholes, as snow mixed with heavy rain causes the "worst imaginable driving conditions".
Potholes - which develop as water freezes after it has got beneath the road surface - can cause damage to all kinds of vehicles, particularly in the suspension and wheel departments.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, noted that "three successive bad winters" have contributed to a "growing backlog" of roads that need attention and resurfacing, meaning that the pothole problem in 2011 could be "significantly worse" than in previous years.
Meanwhile, More Than recently stated that antifreeze levels should be checked regularly by road users throughout the winter months.
