Motorists reminded of upcoming insurance law changes
Posted by Helen Jones
Motorists have been issued a reminder with regard to upcoming changes to the UK's car insurance laws.
Next month (June 20th), the Continuous Insurance Enforcement legislation will come into effect, a ruling that has been designed with the intention of cracking down on drivers with no insurance cover.
Under the terms of the law, it will become a criminal offence to keep an uninsured vehicle, as opposed to it just being illegal to drive without such a policy in place.
In order to make this clear and raise general awareness about the changes among road-users, an advertising campaign is to be launched by the Motor Insurers' Bureau and, in addition, a government official has insisted the authorities will take a zero-tolerance approach to the law.
Mike Penning, road safety minister and MP for Hemel Hempstead, commented: "Our message is clear - get insured or face a fine, court action or seeing your car seized and destroyed."
