Motorists who misfuel 'should not drive on'
Posted by Emily Jones
People who accidentally fill up their cars using the wrong kind of fuel have been advised not to attempt to drive away from the petrol station.
According to Will Thomas from Confused.com, this can result in more damage being done to the vehicle.
He said: "Known as 'drive-on' damage, pumping the wrong fuel through the car can send the cost of the repairs through the roof."
The expert, who is head of motoring at the organisation - which describes itself as the first insurance price comparison site in the UK - noted that the first thing road users should do is contact their cover providers.
Some insurers will treat such incidents as accidental damage, but many will not, he noted.
For those who are not covered, filling up petrol cars with diesel or vice versa can be a costly error, he pointed out, meaning it is vital that consumers pay attention when they pull up in a refuelling station.
